Criteria for success for your best finished draft:

  • In addition to the UbD template, please submit a copy of the performance task and rubric that are used with the unit.

  • "Stage Three" includes key activities that all teachers will use as part of the unit. Please submit copies of these activities and assignments to go along with your draft unit. These assignments and activities also should be listed in "Stage Three."

  • All three stages are complete, including connections to Mass ELA Framework and 21st Century Skills.

  • Units will be shared with department chairs and district leadership to identify best practices and areas where teachers might need additional support.

  • Save your finished unit along with all supporting documents to the X Drive: ELA K-12: Draft UbD Units.

Scituate ELA Grades 5-12 PD

August 29, 2012

Big Questions:

How do we know that our students are meeting the new 2011 Mass ELA Framework (developed from Common Core)?

How does our curriculum position our students to meet the new Mass ELA Framework?

How does our program build sequentially from grades 5 - 12?

Goal for Today:

Based on PARCC's model, create a task that will assess our students' progress toward meeting some of the key standards in the new ELA Framework. Must connect to our curriculum and what we teach currently.

Step 1: Visit the PARCC Samples for Grades 3, 6, 7, or 10. Select ONE of the tasks to analyze.

Step 2: With a group of grade-alike/course-alike teachers, discuss and record responses to the following:

  • What is the task assessing? What must students be able to do to complete this task?

  • How does the task use questions? Why and how are multiple questions used?

  • How does the task incorporate technology? Note that students will be completing these assessments online.

  • What additional elements make a quality task based on your analysis?

Step 3: Post your responses on the appropriate tab on the left. (If you analyzed the "Grade 6 Task," record your answers on the "Grade 6 Analysis" page.

Step 4: Create a task that follows the format of the PARCC items but also reflects the current curriculum you teach at your grade level/in your course in Scituate. Add your task and related documents under the appropriate page on the left. (If you are working on the Grade 7 Task, add documents to the "Scituate Grade 7 Task" page.
